Selection Criteria for IIM Trichy: PGP 2015-17
Indian Institute of Management Tiruchirappalli (also referred to herein as IIM Trichy or IIM T) plans to have a batch size of one hundred and ten (110) students for the PGP batch of 2015-17. This document details the process that would be adopted for selecting candidates for admission to the PGP at IIM Trichy for the batch of 2015-17. IIM T reserves the right to modify any part of this document including the various criteria and cut offs mentioned therein at any time till the admission process for the batch is completed.
The admission process of IIM Trichy takes into consideration the candidate’s performance in CAT, performance in Personal Interview (PI) and Written Analysis Test (WAT), academic record and relevant work experience.
The criteria that would be used to select candidates for Personal Interview and Written Analysis Test (PI & WAT) are shown below:
A. Criteria for shortlisting for PI & WAT:
IIM T will use CAT percentile for shortlisting candidates for PI & WAT. Table 1 indicates the minimum performance expected from candidates to be shortlisted for the PI & WAT. Please note that achieving the cut-off percentile in CAT is a necessary but not sufficient condition for being shortlisted.

It must be noted that the cut-off percentiles given in Table 1 are indicative. The actual cut-off percentiles for 2015-17 batch may vary from those mentioned in Table 1. IIM Trichy will decide the number of candidates to be called for the PI & WAT for each of the above categories.
PI & WAT venues:
The Personal Interview and Written Analysis Test would be conducted at New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai and Kolkata. The exact date for PI & WAT will be communicated to the shortlisted candidates by IIM Udaipur which is co-ordinating for 2015-17 batch on behalf of IIM-Kashipur, IIM-Raipur, IIM-Ranchi, IIM-Rohtak, IIM-Tiruchirappalli and IIM- Udaipur (also referred to herein as the “new IIMs”).
In cases where candidates have been shortlisted by the six new IIMs as well as older IIMs, IIM Udaipur may obtain the PI & WAT scores of such candidates directly from the older IIMs. Such candidates will be informed in advance by IIM-Udaipur, and they need not appear for the PI & WAT conducted by the new IIMs.
B. Criteria that would be used to select candidates post Personal Interview (PI) and Written Analysis Test (WAT):
The following will be the parameters and corresponding weightages used to arrive at the composite score of the candidates, which will be used to prepare the final merit list for admissions.
Please note that the sub-parameters used under each head are also mentioned below, (for e.g., the WAT examines the candidate’s vocabulary, content of writing and writing skills).
1. Written Analysis Test (15 per cent weightage):
Vocabulary, content of writing and writing skills
2. Personal Interview (17 per cent weightage):
a. Communication, attitude and personality
b. Academic efforts and disposition
c. Managerial and leadership attributes
d. Social awareness and disposition
e. Overall presence
3. Work experience (based on relevance and quality of work experience and achievements, if any): 5 per cent weightage
4. Performance at Undergraduate level: 10 per cent weightage.
This performance shall be measured by multiplying the percentage marks scored by the weightage applicable to the discipline as shown below. 10 per cent of the score so obtained shall be considered in the overall evaluation. [UG performance score = (per cent score at UG * discipline weightage)* 0.10]
Differential weightages, as shown below, shall be applied to different disciplines to account for the degree of difficulty in scoring in different disciplines (for instance, scoring in Engineering disciplines is easier than in Arts) as well as to encourage diversity in the batch:
a. Engineering / Technology: 0.6
b. Science: 0.8
c. Commerce / Economics / Management: 1.0
d. Arts / Medicine (including Pharmacy): 0.9
5. Master’s degree or Professional Qualification : 2 per cent weightage (a pass in the Master Degree / final examinations of CA / ICWA/ CS)
6. Gender Diversity : 1 per cent weightage for female candidates
7. CAT score: 50 per cent weightage.
