Most of the IIMs today have multiple criteria for screening a candidate before shortlisting them for MBA programs. Apart from CAT score below are list of other short listing criteria's:
-10th percentage for IIM
-12th percentage for IIMs  
-Graduation percentage for IIMs
-Master's percentage for IIMs
-Work Exp. for IIMs
The selection criteria of IIMs  has become more stern because of the sheer competition. The number of CAT aspirants is increasing phenomenally every year. By screening students at different level IIMs are ensuring that they valuing consistent performers. Also it refines the selection process which was just based on 2 hour exam & 1-2 hours GD/PI. Below is the shortlisting criteria used by IIM Ahmadabad for 2011-13 batch:

· If a candidate does both Masters and Professional Course, take the better of the two.
· Apply average of available years of Masters/Professional Degrees.
· For those candidates having cleared CA/ICWAI without having bachelor’s degree, treat their average of inter and final level marks as bachelor’s degree marks for Commerce and do not consider the marks for professional degree.
· Percentages for incomplete Master’s Degree Applicants are based on their available marks.

General Category candidates: 
540 candidates whose percentiles in each section were 94 and above, and who had an overall percentile of 99 and had an Application Rating of >= 21 were considered for personal interview.
NC-OBC Category Candidates:
193 NC-OBC candidates whose percentiles in each section were 84 and above and who had an overall percentile of 94 and an Application Rating of >=19 were considered for personal interview.
SC Category Candidates: 
108 SC candidates whose percentiles in each section were 75 and
above and who had an overall percentile of 80 and an Application Rating of >=17 were considered for personal interview.
ST Category Candidates: 
55 ST candidates whose percentiles in each section were 50 and above and who had an overall percentile of 80 with an Application Rating of >= 16 were considered for personal interview.
DA Category Candidates: 
21 DA candidates whose percentiles in each section were 65 and above and who had an overall percentile of 80 with an Application Rating of >=16 were considered for personal interview.
