Folks though more about the online Pattern of CAT 2009 be clear once the Admission notification is out, still there are certain things about the online exams which one should be aware of.

1. Need not to say, make yourself familiar with computer basics, if you are not.

2. Online exam may not contain too complex questions which requires lots of calculations (for DI/Quantz)The main focus of the online exam would be your problem solving speed & time management.

3. Improve your reading speed, calculation speed & problem solving speed

4. Improve your time management skills. While solving a set of questions at home, make a habiit of setting a time limit. Try to score as much as possible in the stipulated amount of time.Practice alot.

5. Verbal section is expected to get tougher as it doesn't requires anycalculations. So try to work on it, read a lot.

6. Type of Questions which require less calculations can be expected Eg Data sufficiency etc.

GMAT has an exam pattern where complexity of the next question depends on your ability to answer the last questions. So if you are able to answer the last question correctly, the next question would be tougher (and carry more marks too!!!).

Will try to post a sample screen image for online exams next week, so that you can get a picture how the online CAT 2009 exam will look. This would be just for reference to understand the online exams.
Will post some sample online exams too, which you can practice at your home.

  3. Hi Anshul,
Good to know that you are so keen for MBA right from the begining.you need to keep your focus intact throughout your preparation from now which will surely enable to crack most of the exams. Assuming you would attempt CAT & other MBA exams next year, currently you just have an year and few months left; would advise you to do all the required homework before jump starting your preparation.

Learn all about CAT (First 3-4 days)
Devote two hours daily for next few days and try to learn as much as possible about CAT. Below links must be useful for you:

Do Self Analysis for CAT (For 10 days)
The next thing which you should do is analyze yourself so as to find your strength & weaknesses. How to find your strength & weaknesses
1.Simply pick up a past years CAT exam paper:
    Past Year Papers
Download Past Year Papers for MBA Exams
    2. Attempt as many questions as you can without putting the time limit in one go (say you sit for 4 hours read all the questions & attempt which ever you are confident of.....don't make any blind guess for any of the questions.....feel free to make calculated guess in verbal section :) ).
    3. Write down your overall score, along with sectional score
    4. Repeat step 1-3 for 2 more Past Year CAT Papers

With your consolidated scores for two to three attempts of Mock CAT tests, you would be able find which section is your strength and which one is your weakness.
Please Remember: Initially when you write any mock tests with same time limit as actual CAT, your scores would be quite low as you are yet to master the time
management. So don't panic, slowly with time & with your preparation in progress your score will rise progressively.

Execution: Mastering your strenghts and improving your Weaknesses
Once you have finished analyzing yourself, you need to start working on wekanesses & mastering your strengths. Please refer below link to find out which books/study materials you should refer:

List of Novels and Books for MBA Students
You should start with self preparation and stick to it for a year. Join for Mock CATs after a 10-12 months from now. After a year of self preparation, if you feel you are not comfortable in any of the particular areas then think of joining for classroom coachings.

    1. Dear Kirti,

Either way its good, you should opt for whatever suits you the best. Whether you invest those year now or after MBA its finally going to add to same number of years of exp., Down the line after 5 year it would not matter whether you gained exp. before doing MBA or not.
Gaining some exp. before MBA allows a person to gain knowledge about corporate world and might help a candidate to better understand learning during MBA. At the same time after joining work it might be difficult for a person to come out of work responsibilities and prepare for MBA.
