IIM B gives 15% weighatge to graduation marks. Your profile is very good, except your grads marks. I believe you still have time to improve the graduation percentage. Try to score 60+ percentage in graduation and then your chances are bright with a high score in CAT.

DeleteI hope you will manage to score 80+ in your graduation. Would advise you to focus on CAT preparation and try to score as much as possible, probably try for 99.5+. With this percentile you should be able to get calls from B, C and L. Furthermore having work exp. of 2.5+ years helps candidates in getting IIM Calls.

DeleteWith OBC category, you have chances if you score high in CAT. Your 12th score is very low when compared with 10th marks and looks to me that you would require to justify it well during interviews. Also would like to add that with reservations its bit difficult to predict things because it depends on selected pool of students, if they are more competitive then the cutoffs including academics marks cutoff would be high. Furthermore OBC category has lot more candidates than SC/ST. Hence predicting exact IIMs where you could expect calls from with reservation factor is difficult, would advise you to be hopeful for IIM I and IIM L.

DeleteAs IIMB gives huge weight age to candidates profile and not to CAT score, due to which you have less chances of getting IIMB call. I believe you would have already read, below is the weight age given by IIMB for different scores/marks:
CAT = 20, 10th board=15, 12th board=10, Bachelors= 15
And as you can see CAT score is given only a weight age of 1/3rd (20/60), hence even with very high CAT percentile a candidate may not get IIM B call.
I will not say you have absolutely no chances but will say you have less chances and you should not be much hopeful.

Chances for calls from top IIMs is very very less almost nil. Chances for calls from lower IIMs is also less, you may get calls from some of the lower IIMs if you score very high in CAT read 99.7 with consistent score across sections.

Thank you sir.. I've started my preparation for CAT2013. Coming from a non mathematical background i'm having tough time in quant regarding calculations and fastness.. could you advice me of how i can improve that.
DeleteSetup a monthly plan, identify selected topics in quantitative aptitude which you should work on and focus on mastering them for those 30 days. Repeat this for next month. The only thing which would help you is planned practice. If you work on all quantz topics at the same time, you may loose your focus. Hence it is advisable you focus on selected 5-6 topics each month, get thorough with them and then plan for next one month.

DeleteYour BE/B.tech marks are pretty low. Please go through selection criteria for IIMA & IIMB. In short:
DeleteIf you look at the selection criteria of IIMA AR score formula is:
Application Rating Score: (AxBxC)+D+E
A = Based on 10th marks
B= Based on 12th Marks
C = Based on Grad Marks
D = Based on Post graduation marks
E = Based on work exp
You AR score is = (3*2*1) +0 +3 = 9
AR score cutoff for IIMA is expected to be much higher, around 23+.
Similarly IIMB gives high weightage to candidates profile including acads. For IIMB candidates with excellent profile could expect call on lower percentile as well, around 92. Your graduation marks will play a role here as well.

The only issue is that I'm told my graduation marks are not that impressive. Although from what I hear, IIMK just cares for a CGPA of 6.5, I was more inclined towards IIM B because they have some awesome general management consulting recruiters there. Also, please comment on the selection procedure for IIM A/C.

DeleteExcept few of the IIMs, you have very very bright chances of getting calls from most of them if you score 99.5+ with consistent marks across sections. The few IIMs are IIMA, IIM B and IIM C. You may get calls from these three IIMs as well but chances are slightly less when compared to other 10 IIMS.
You should focus on getting admission in colleges ranked under 20 in below list:

ReplyDeleteI'm really passionate of getting into iim's but unfortunately my academics are very average.Do i stand any chances of getting into IIM-A/B/C/L even if i score 100 percentile in CAT. I know it is damn difficult to get 100% but i will start my preparation with some hardcore planning.i know i can get that but someone needs to help me that i can get a call.Please reply.

Work Ex - 40 months till present.
